An historic perspective on Libya

The Spectator has a very interesting history of the region known as Libya.  This is a rather fascinating historical perspective of the region. It shows that the boundaries of east and west were drawn in ancient times. Names such as Phoenicia and Cyrene should be familiar to most of us.

Do you know the more ancient name for Benghazi? It is Berenice, named after the wife of a Roman.

Do you known when the unification of Libya took place? Does the name Il Duce ring a bell? Yes, it was not until Mussolini asserted control that the whole region was united for the first time.
