The UK overwhelmingly votes against electoral reform

The UK has a voting system that is known as first past the post. This means that if you vote for an alternative candidate, then you just have to accept whoever wins. Nick Clegg and the Liberal Democrats had worked to get a change in the voting system to the alternative vote. This is the system used in Australia, where you fill in all the squares and the lowest candidates votes are then assigned to those higher up the chain until a winner is declared. That system has some advantages as well as disadvatages. It got us lumbered with the Marxist Julia Gillard as Prime Minister.

The UK went to the polls yesterday, and the result has been an overwhelming defeat of the AV reform. You can read about this vote here.
